Apple Watch Series 12 Launches with Health Upgrades and Regulatory Delays

Apple released the Apple Watch Series 12 starting at $399, equipped with a new Health Sensing System, an Audio Intelligence suite, and a faster S11 chip alongside ceramic case options. While the device introduces increased heart rate sampling rates, readiness scores, and recovery insights, some users upgrading to the Series 12 or Ultra 4 may temporarily lose hypertension notifications due to pending regional regulatory clearances. Additionally, certain new features like accurate sensors, a redesigned Health app, a VO2max test, and an upgraded Workout Buddy arrive with specific requirements that extend to older hardware.

   Why it matters

The rollout accompanies the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone Duo, marking a major hardware refresh across Apple ecosystems. Regulatory hurdles for hypertension tracking highlight the complex approval processes wearable health features face during generational updates. Meanwhile, the distribution of specific software capabilities to older devices offers broader access to updated wellness tools.

   • Apple released the Apple Watch Series 12 starting at $399.
   • Hypertension notifications may not be available on the Series 12 or Ultra 4 at launch because regulatory clearances are in process.
