Ukraine's 25th Brigade Targets russian Drone Mothership Carrying FPVs (Video)
Ukrainian drone operators from the 25th Brigade successfully targeted a Russian Molniya unmanned aerial vehicle acting as a mothership for smaller craft. The downed aircraft was carrying both a reconnaissance FPV drone and a strike FPV drone in its payload. Concurrently, National Guard interceptor pilots from the Omega Special Operations Center detected and struck a Russian Molniya-13 mothership drone over the Donetsk region. This tactical engagement highlights the evolving aerial combat operations on the frontline, where both forces increasingly deploy unmanned systems to intercept and neutralize specialized aerial assets mid-flight.

Why it matters
The extensive use of unmanned aerial systems has transformed the frontline dynamic in Ukraine since 2022, turning the conflict into a proving ground for advanced aerial defense and strike technology. Mothership drones allow smaller FPV units to extend their operational range and execute complex coordinated missions. As both militaries scale up specialized interceptor capabilities and deploy tactical drone-hunting units, the airspace over contested regions like Donetsk remains heavily contested.
