Ukraine Debuts Aerial Rescue Drones to Evacuate Wounded Troops

Ukraine's military has debuted specialized aerial rescue drones to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield. An elite military unit carried out two air evacuations using the newly developed StarGate drone, a six-rotor aircraft equipped with an enclosed evacuation capsule. The technology aims to cut battlefield evacuation times from hours to minutes. In one mission, a wounded soldier who had waited two days for rescue and was unable to walk out of the combat zone was flown to safety near the Russian border.

   Why it matters

Traditional ground evacuations in active combat zones frequently expose medics and wounded personnel to extreme danger and prolonged delays. The introduction of specialized aerial evacuation platforms addresses these severe tactical bottlenecks. The initial operations mark a shift toward utilizing unmanned systems for casualty extraction in high-threat areas.
