Attendance of Prince William at King Harald V funeral remains unconfirmed
It is undecided if King Charles will attend the funeral of Norway's King Harald V, though some claims suggest Prince William may attend instead. King Harald V died on August 28 at age 89. His son has since become King Haakon VIII and taken his oath in parliament. While Queen Mette-Marit has participated in the procession to move the late king's coffin to the royal chapel, the British royal family's official representation at the funeral has not been finalized.
Why it matters
The transition of the Norwegian throne follows the death of a monarch who was one of the last remaining great-grandchildren of King Edward VII. The event marks the ascension of King Haakon VIII. The level of British royal attendance reflects the diplomatic ties between the two monarchies.
