Why it matters
This incident has sparked fresh questions about visitor safety at English zoos following multiple tragic events within months. Wildlife authorities and park management face scrutiny over enclosure security and protocols when members of the public breach secure zones. The decision to spare the animal contrasts with historical precedents at other facilities where attacking wildlife was routinely put down.
