Long and Medium Distance
The Long Distance Triathlon consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride and a 42km run. Without a doubt, it is the most demanding sports event in one day. The Middle Distance involves 1.9km swimming, 90km cycling and 21km running.
Regarding her history as an athlete, Flor says that she started running not long ago and for this reason, “It is never too late to start” has never been so valid.
“I recently started running, at the age of 37 (2016). In January 2017 I did my first 10km race and in December 2017 my first 42km marathon.
In 2019 I started practicing triathlon at the Ohana Triathlon Club in Torrelodones, Madrid, and in December 2019 I started training long distance triathlon with the San Juan triathlon coach Pedro León. With Pedro I did my first Long Distance Ironman and I qualified for the world championship. We remain in contact with him, sharing news of the discipline and I continue to listen to his advice.
Since the beginning of the year 2022 I train with the Spanish professional triathlete Eneko Llanos, runner-up in the World in 2008 and with 13 appearances in the Kona World Cup as a professional.
To achieve any goal regardless of age, the important thing is to be well advised and guided and to have discipline and perseverance”, says the triathlete.
In relation to the activity in the Spanish Circuit, he says: “The triathlon sport in Spain has great fans and there are many good level competitions.
I have 10 Middle Distance triathlons in Spain, achieving in almost all of them, podium in my category.
In winter I practice Middle Distance duathlon (biking and running). And I’ve been runner-up in my category for the Community of Madrid for three years.
I also won the Medium Distance triathlon in my category in Salou (Catalonia) in 2021 of the Challenge franchise.
My next challenges, after a short break, is to thoroughly prepare and participate in the Ironman 70.3 in San Juan in 2023 and if there is, in 2024”, closes María Florencia Díaz Philippi, hours away from her great challenge.
