Birmingham – Formula 1 replacement driver Nico Hulkenberg is testing an Indycar car for the first time. The 34-year-old will do his first laps in an Arrow McLaren SP car at Barber Motorsports Park in the USA on Monday.
“I’m looking forward to trying out an Indy car and seeing what it’s about,” said Hulkenberg, thanking him for the opportunity on the course in Birmingham, Alabama. “Although I don’t have any plans to drive Indycar at the moment, it will be great to drive a car like this for the first time and to get a feel for the series.”
Hülkenberg is Formula 1 replacement driver for Aston Martin, where Sebastian Vettel is a regular driver. The Rhinelander started in 179 Grand Prix without ever finishing on the podium. In 2015, Hülkenberg won the Le Mans long-distance classic.
