US recycler Freepoint Eco-Systems (Stamford, Connecticut) has begun construction of its first commercial plant for chemical recycling of plastic waste. One of the world’s largest plants of its kind will be built on an area of 25 hectares in Hebron / Ohio. Freepoint did not provide any information on the amount of the investment. The incoming quantity of the ISCC Plus-certified plant was given as 90,000 t. Commissioning is planned for mid-2024.
The site is expected to create 70 jobs, Freepoint CEO Jeff McMahon said at the groundbreaking ceremony. The entire quantity of pyrolysis oil produced there is sold to the petrochemical giant Shell (London / Great Britain; www.shell.com). The two companies signed a corresponding, long-term supply contract at the beginning of the year.
