Lana Del Rey responds to accusations of discrimination against people of color over the cover of her new album

On January 11, American singer Lana Del Rey unveiled the track listing and artwork for the new Chemtrails Over the Country Club album. Users accused the performer of discriminating against the colored population, because in the cover photo she is surrounded only by white women.

In the comments to the publication on her Instagram account, Lana Del Rey admitted that the cover photo depicts her best friends.

“As for my wonderful friends on this cover: yes, there are people of color in this photo, and that’s all I can say about that. My beautiful friend Valerie from Del Rio, Mexico, my best friend Alex and my gorgeous friend Dakota Rain, and my beloved Tatiana – they are my friends and my life. We all combine beauty in ourselves, someone to a greater extent – and I have always noted this in everything I did. In 11 years of work, I have always been an extremely inclusive person, without even trying on purpose.

My best friends are rappers, I had guys who were rappers. My closest friends come from many different countries, so before you comment on the WOC / POC (Woman / Person of color – Esquire) issue again, I am not storming the capital, but literally changing the world by expressing my life, thoughts and love, sitting at the table 24/7. Respect it, ”the singer wrote in the comments.

Lana Del Rey later released the title track from the new Chemtrails album Over the Country Club, which will be released on March 19. IN interview for BBC Radio 1, dedicated to the presentation of the track and the video for it, the singer again commented on this situation and addressed “the people who listen.”

“My friends, my family … They are all different, and we are not the type to storm the Capitol. We voted for Biden. My friends live in different parts of the world, they have children from a wide variety of people. And I tell all of this to the people who listen, because people really wanted more people of color on the cover of my album. As you know, to some extent, everything turned out to be so, ”said the performer.
