The front fenders are distributed on each side of the vehicle, they are not only an integral part of the bodywork, but also protect against possible debris encountered on the road. They must also offer a high level of mechanical strength as well as excellent exterior quality to help maintain structural integrity with the rest of the body.

The LUCON TX5007 composite material, developed by LG Chem, combines an alloy of modified polyphenylene ether (mPPE) and polyamide (PA66) reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNT). The material has excellent electrical conductivity and exhibits strong mechanical properties. This product also offers exceptional heat resistance and is suitable for automotive paint line temperatures of 200 degrees Celsius or more. At the same time, it also provides excellent dimensional stability thanks to its low coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE).

The use of plastic to replace steel/aluminum generally contributes to the lightening of the vehicle. A plastic fender reduces vehicle weight by approximately 4 kg, improving fuel efficiency. Plastic fenders also provide other benefits, including reduced exhaust emissions and carbon footprint.

In addition to LUCON TX5007, LG Chem has a broad portfolio of products that can be widely used on automotive exterior parts requiring a powder coating process. These products can be customized to meet the various requirements of automotive suppliers for parts for fenders, bumper panels, hoods, tailgates, fuel doors and side mirrors.

At the same time, LG Chem uses the CNT, fillers which, even in small quantities in engineering plastics, significantly improve conductivity to meet various customer requirements. This material, allowing wider electrical conductivity compared to other carbon-filled materials such as carbon black and carbon fiber, is the best solution for powder coating. LG Chem has not only built its own CNT production line, but is now expanding its fourth factory for mass production in 2024, which will enable a reliable supply of high-quality powder coating products.
