Long queues at UK airports due to lack of staff

Birmingham Airport attributes the high wait times to a combination of understaffing and a large influx following the lifting of all coronavirus-related travel restrictions. More than 40% of staff were made redundant during the pandemic, leading the airport to launch a new recruitment drive in November. In addition, new recruits sometimes have to wait a long time to obtain their security clearance.

London Heathrow and Stansted airports have also experienced long queues on several occasions in recent weeks. British airlines are also feeling the staff shortage: British Airways and Easyjet, among others, have already been forced to cancel flights or remove seats from their planes.

Outside the UK, Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, among others, has suffered from severe congestion and understaffing in recent weeks.
