Maintal-Werke: Hosius takes over from Weber: newspaper for municipal economy

According to a press release, Mayor Monika Böttcher is pleased to have found an experienced and competent managing director in Hosius. “He brings many years of expertise and profound knowledge of the energy market with its entire value chain to MWG.” This means that the municipal utilities are ideally positioned to meet the challenges posed by the energy crisis and the energy transition.

Conscious decision for a local supplier

Tillmann Hosius is moving from Gas-Union, which has been part of the VNG Group since October 1, 2020, to Maintaler Stadtwerke. For the 49-year-old lawyer, this change to a local energy supplier with medium-sized structures is a conscious decision. He appreciates the short decision-making processes, the work in small teams, pragmatism and the variety of topics, according to the statement. “The mix of electricity, gas, heat and water makes it possible to work on a wide range of topics and deal with all the technical challenges. It’s an exciting task,” he says.

Hosius was born and grew up in the Eifel. After graduating from high school, he studied law in Göttingen and France and did his doctorate on an energy law topic in the natural gas market, which was still to be liberalized. At the same time, he worked in the field of energy and antitrust law at an international law firm in Cologne. He spent his legal clerkship with an energy supplier in Kentucky (USA).

Many years of experience in the energy sector

After the second state exam, the lawyer was hired by what was then the largest Dutch energy company and helped to set up the German business from Düsseldorf. This was followed by the move to Gas-Union. After the company was sold, he was appointed to the management board.

Hosius is currently familiarizing himself with his new area of responsibility. He is assisted by long-time managing director Wilfried Weber, who will retire at the end of the year. “This is of course an ideal constellation,” says Hosius, who says he found a competent team, a family atmosphere and open doors at MWG.

Industry facing major challenges

The industry is facing major challenges: “Utilities, industry, commercial and household customers are currently spending enormous costs on energy procurement – funds that are now lacking in the expansion of renewable energies. The tense financial situation is accompanied by sharply rising interest rates and price increases in all areas. In this environment, it is very challenging to push ahead with the energy transition through the expansion of renewable energies and electromobility and to make it affordable,” explains the managing director. The Managing Director emphasizes that Maintal-Werke should continue to be the first address on site for all customers, who ensure a good supply from and for Maintal with responsibility, foresight and ecological orientation.
