A man died after being shot early Friday morning in Silver Spring prompting officers to cordon off an apartment parking lot, authorities said.
Montgomery County deputies responded around 3:05 am in the 8500 block of 16th Street after receiving reports of a shooting. The area is about a half mile from downtown Silver Spring.
A man was found with an apparent gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police added.
No further information was available on the identity of the victim or a possible suspect. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
Authorities cordoned off an apartment building parking lot during the investigation, loading a black sedan onto a tow truck and taking it away as evidence.
In addition, the police indicated that the shooting was an isolated incident and that they do not believe there is a threat to the community.
Summit Hills Apartments management notified residents of the investigation in a statement saying the incident was isolated and thanked police for their response.
