As indicated by the SumaPaz Foundation, in Antioquia there were 24 homicides of human rights defenders, a figure that makes the department one where these types of crimes occur the most.
Óscar Yesid Zapata, Human Rights defender, indicated that “the main places where defenders are assassinated are: 25% of the cases in eastern Antioquia, and 20% in northern Antioquia, in 12% in the southwest, and 12% in the Aburrá Valley”.
87.5% of the homicides correspond to male leaders, while 12.5% to women. For Sumapaz, spaces for dialogue between the National Government and criminal structures are necessary, in order to put an end to the murder of social leaders.
