At least seven people have died, including a child, as a result of strong tornadoes that have hit the southern United States, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate and run for shelter.

Strong tornadoes left damaged power lines, severed tree limbs and debris littered streets in Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky, where at least 35 preliminary tornado reports had been reported as of Thursday night, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
Six people died in Autauga County, central Alabama, and a 5-year-old boy was killed in Butts County, Georgia, after a tree fell on the vehicle in which he was traveling with his parents.
