Helen wants Max to tell Brantley of his intention to leave New Amsterdam, but he would prefer to do so by already offering her an alternative for the Medical Directorate. Due to the lack of staff that afflicts the hospital, the intensive care unit is completely unmanned and Max is bending over backwards to avoid closing it. Iggy begins supervising the trainees, but his anxiety to prevent them from making the slightest mistake with the patients makes the atmosphere very tense, so much so that they all leave mid-practice.
