New York, Texas, California… the most majestic turn-of-the-century cinemas

Taken in the view camera, the pictures collected in Movie Theaters attest to this golden age of entertainment at the beginning of the 20the century, overtaken since the 1960s by the ever-changing technological society. Neo-Renaissance, art nouveau, Bauhaus, neo-Byzantine or even Jugendstil style… these former cinema palaces are of great architectural richness. While some are still in ruins, capturing the essence of times gone by, others have been restored and even turned into churches, retail spaces, flea markets or even nightclubs.

The book published by Prestel editions offers large format photographs, printed with superior quality inks.
