The Colts d’Indianapolis need a quarterback and they will do whatever it takes to find their man.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, general manager Chris Ballard said the team is open to making a trade to draft a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft in April.
The Colts currently hold the fourth selection of the auction.
“I’ve never given up on anything in my life and I won’t now. We will settle this, ”assured Ballard.
Quarterback play was a major factor in the Colts posting a 4-12-1 record this season and in the team firing head coach Frank Reich in November. Former NFL MVP Matt Ryan struggled in his first season with the team at the age of 37, while the veteran Nick Foles and the second-year player Sam Ehlinger have failed to establish themselves as options for the No. 1 spot in 2023.
The team ranked 23rd in average passing yards per game with 201.9.
Among the candidates available in the next draft are Bryce Young (Alabama), the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, CJ Stroud (Ohio State) and Will Levis (Kentucky), all of whom are expected to be selected early.
The problem for the Colts will be getting the player they want. The Bears de Chicago hold the first pick, but they seem to be fixed at quarterback with Justin Fields, which could prompt them to trade the selection. The Texans de Houston currently own the second pick and will almost certainly be looking to select a quarterback, while the Arizona Cardinalswho have just offered a long-term contract extension with Kyler Murrayhave the third choice.
The NFL Draft will begin on April 27.
