Niners Chemnitz sign powerhouse Malik Osborne from the USA | free press

The 24-year-old was last active in Greece and can be used in several positions. This completes the 12-man squad of Chemnitz basketball players at an important time – there are many games in the BBL and Europe Cup to come.

Chemnitz.

Basketball Bundesliga team Niners Chemnitz has found what they are looking for in Greece: Malik Osborne is moving to the Saxons with immediate effect. The 24-year-old last played for Kolossos Rhodes in the Greek first division, where he averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in ten games. Osborne appears to fit perfectly into Niners head coach Rodrigo Pastore’s system.

Because the American is not the classic “big man” who only acts as a center under the basket. The 2.05 meter tall model athlete is physically very present both offensively and defensively, and he can also throw well from a distance. Pastore needs just such players for his system, which is very difficult for the opponent to calculate and is based on many position changes. In addition, Osborne comes through the emotions – a factor that has so far been missing from the Ninersteam, which was newly assembled in the summer.

Malik Osborne was born on April 9, 1998 in Matteson (Illinois) and has played college basketball since 2017, first for the Rice Owls in Houston (Texas) and until last year for the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee (Florida). He signed his first professional contract abroad in Rhodes in the summer of 2022.

With Osborne’s signing, the Niners are completing their 12-man rotation – and at an important time. Because in the coming weeks a lot of games are waiting for Chemnitz. After the east derby next Wednesday at newly promoted Rostock Seawolves, it’s home against the Frankfurt Skyliners before six away games in the BBL and Europe Cup await within 16 days.
