NOGALES, SON.- The possible installation of sanitary filters at the border crossing between both Nogales must be organized by federal authorities, as they are facilities of the Government of the Republic. For that, the municipality is available to support any preventive measure to avoid more Covid-19 infections at this border.
Zenén Padilla, Municipal Health coordinator, reported the above after being questioned about the possibility of any measure to try to minimize the risk of further spread of the Coronavirus, especially due to the situation experienced by the neighboring state of Arizona, where thousands are present of confirmed infections daily.
“It was working together with the Ministry of Health, but those who have jurisdiction in that place is the National Institute of Migration and the Mexican Customs, we are in the best position to support with any project or program”he commented.
Dr. Padilla stated that, in recent meetings, the health sector disclosed that sand they would install some filters before the crossing of the countrymen, but nothing captured before the crossing of local border residents.
The municipal official stressed that the Government of Nogales made available the installation of health checkpoints or sanitary tunnels such as those installed in the middle of the year, a proposal that was heard by federal authorities, but has not been requested to date. .
“We have proposed that things be done so that it can be reviewed, but they (federal) responded that the crossing from Arizona of Mexican citizens alike could not be stopped, traffic cannot be stopped and it is assumed that they were already working on that”added.
He stressed that the Municipal Health Coordination and the State Health Secretariat continue to be available to reinforce sanitary measures at the border crossing, but everything is left to the decision of the Federal Government.
