USA: One dead in tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas

Powderly. Tornadoes have killed at least one person in parts of Oklahoma and Texas. About 25 others were injured and dozens of buildings were destroyed. McCurtain County in southeastern Oklahoma was particularly hard hit. Disaster Management Director Cody McDaniel confirmed the death but did not comment on the exact circumstances.

In the small town of Idabel, a church, a medical center and a school were literally torn apart by the force of the wind on Friday. “There was total destruction on the south and east sides of Idabel,” McCurtain County emergency coordinator Steven Carter told the Texarkana Gazette. As of Friday evening, people were still trapped in their homes or their remains.

Gov. Kevin Stitt said rescue teams and backup generators have been dispatched to Idabel. Praying for the people of the state affected by the tornadoes, he tweeted. According to authorities, hurricanes occurred in at least three other counties. Flooding occurred in some areas. The National Weather Service also reported tornadoes from Texas and Arkansas; a storm area is also heading towards Louisiana.
