The quarterback of the Chiefs of Kansas City Patrick Mahomes joined a group of owners of the Kansas City Current from National Women’s Soccer League.
Muhammad’s wife Brittanywas one of the founding owners of the team, along with Angie y Chris Long of the Palmer Square Capital Management group.
“We are excited to make it a family affair and include Patrick as owner,” said Brittany Mahomes it’s a statement. “He’s been a huge support behind the scenes. There’s no denying his passion for the Current and I’m thankful that he’s going to be here with us on this journey to become the best in the NWSL“.
Mahomes Join a list of players from the NFL that participate in the professional women’s soccer league, which will begin its 11th season this year.
The guardian of the Bears de Chicago Michael Schofieldhas participation with the Red Stars de Chicagoas well as the former player of the Bears Israel Idonije. Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has shares in Gotham FC. Former Carolina Panther center Ryan Kalil is part owner of the Angel City.
Mahomes also participates in the MLB Kansas City Royals and the MLS Sporting KC. He praised his wife and the Long family on social media Tuesday, saying: “I’m excited to join another champion-caliber club and continue to make history.”
The Current joined the NWSL as an expansion team in 2021. Kansas City they finished fourth in the standings the previous season, reached the postseason and played in the league final that they lost to the Portland Thorns.
