Vienna – Monday, February 22nd, 2021, 8:22 am
Even if Max Homa has moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, he sees himself as “a child from Los Angeles”.
The native Californian has been closely associated with “The Genesis Invitational” and the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades since his youth. Homa has been dreaming of winning home at the Riviera Country Club since he was two years old, when he first attended the event on his father’s shoulders.
The 30-year-old’s dream came true on Sunday. Homa (66 + 70 + 70 + 66) and Tony Finau (71 + 67 + 70 + 64) complete the four rounds with a total of 272 strokes (-12). In the jump-off, Homa then prevails on the 2nd extra hole with a birdie on the 14th fairway.
The new number 38 in the world – Homa ranked 91st before the win – is happy about his 2nd victory on the US PGA Tour and the prize money of 1.674 million dollars.
Sam Burns (USA / -11), who was in the lead at half time, finished third ahead of Cameron Smith (AUS / -9).
Sepp Straka (picture), who was born in Vienna, never really gets going. The 27-year-old Austro-American missed his outlier and finished the tournament after rounds with 70, 71, 73 and 71 strokes in 43rd place (+1). In the annual “FedExCup” ranking, Straka remains in 69th intermediate place, in the world rankings he made up one place and ranks 146th.
Bernd Wiesberger and Matthias Schwab, who are not in action, are 41st and 100th respectively in the World Golf Ranking.
