The big Italian name in spirits has announced four external growth operations in 2022, compared to one or two in previous years. Enough to fuel its future growth.
From the point of view of external growth, Campari has not been idle in 2022. In May, the Italian group announced the acquisition from the French bitter Picon, its first operation of the year, for 119 million euros. At the height of summer, Del Professore vermouths, a small Roman company founded in 2013, followed suit.
Then the group switched to American time: at the end of August, it gained a foothold, up to 15% (initially) and for 15 million dollars, in the round of Howler Head, young bourbon distillery whose sales approached $7 million in 2021.
Second operation of the year in the Bourbons
On Wednesday, Campari finalized an operation of the same type, but of a much larger dimension: the acquisition of 70% of Wilderness Trail Distilleryanother company in the U.S. state of Kentucky producing premium bourbon and rye whiskey (rye whiskey).
