MOBILE, Alabama — One person was killed and nine injured in a shooting a few blocks from where thousands of people were attending a New Year’s Eve party on the streets of downtown Mobile, Alabama, police said.
Videos broadcast on television show police on horseback and on foot rushing to the scene of the shooting Saturday, about 45 minutes before midnight.
Police have not released the name of the person who died or the state of health of the nine people hospitalized.
The shooting broke out a few blocks from the main stage of the Moon Pie Over Mobile festival. The event continued with fireworks and a cupcake falling from a downtown building at midnight to mark the start of 2023. The shooter and the person who died apparently knew each other.
