So far in 2023, the US has already deported more than 250 Guatemalans

(CNN Spanish) – Three flights from the United States arrived in Guatemala City on Wednesday with 255 deported Guatemalans, according to a statement published by the Guatemalan Institute of Migration on its website.

The first flight arrived from the town of Harlingen, in the state of Texas, with 87 people, including a minor; the second arrived from McAllen, also in Texas, with 84 people, 46 of whom are minors; and the third came from Alexandria, Louisiana, with 84 people.

These are the first flights with deportees arriving in Guatemala so far in 2023.

In 2022, a total of 94,216 Guatemalans were deported from the United States and Mexico, the Guatemalan Director General of Migration, Stuard Rodríguez, reported on Wednesday.

Rodríguez indicated that, from the US in 2022, 40,713 people were deported by air, while from Mexico, also by air, 15,547 Guatemalans returned to the country. By land, from the border with Mexico, 37,956 people were deported.

CNN consulted the US Customs and Border Protection for more details about these deportations, but has not yet received a response.
