The governor Claudia Pavlovich Arellano indicated that two companies installed in Sonora start operations as suppliers to Lucid Motors, an American company located in Big house, Arizona, thanks to its qualified workforce and the competitive advantages generated by the Sonora-Arizona mega-region.
These are Cooper Standard in Guaymas, which manufactures automotive gaskets and fluid hoses; and Faurecia in Hermosillo, which manufactures battery packs.
The Sonoran president recalled that together with Doug Ducey, governor of Arizona, Peter Rawlison, CEO and CTO of Lucid Motors and Peter Hochholdinger, Vice President of Manufacturing, in December 2019 they laid the first stone of the company in the neighboring border state.
For its part, Jorge Vidal Ahumada, secretary of Economy, highlighted the skilled labor of Sonoran workers and Governor Pavlovich’s drive to detonate the economy in the entity that resulted in these companies being Lucid Motors suppliers.
“They selected Arizona for the Sonoran manufacturing and the proof is that these two companies are already working for Lucid Motors, With the support of the Sonora supplier, Lucid Motors will build 30 thousand cars a year, it can be said that this is the best example of that the Mega-region offers companies a platform for growth through shared resources”, He indicated.
Rawlison, the CEO of Lucid Motors, explained that they have access to almost 100 Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers, based in Sonora, so the Lucid Motors supply will be less than 24 hours from the plant.
At the conclusion of the first stage of construction of its plant in Arizona, Lucid Motors, the plant, called Lucid Advanced Manufacturing Plant-1It will have an initial capacity of up to 30 thousand units per year; will consist of the Lucid Air Dream Editions, followed by Grand Touring; the Touring and Lucid Air Pure in 2022.
