TAMPA, Fla. — Steven Stamkos came within a goal of 500 goals on Thursday, helping the Tampa Bay Lightning win 5-4 over the Vancouver Canucks.
Stamkos hit the mark on a two-man power play in the third period.
He is set to become the 47th player in history to score 500 National League goals.
Corey Perry, Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel scored the other goals for the Lightning, which earned their ninth straight win at home.
Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, Conor Garland and JT Miller replied for the Canucks, who have lost their last five games on the road.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 36 saves for Tampa Bay, while Collin Delia turned aside 30 shots for the Vancouver side.
The Canucks will play their next game Saturday night at Sunrise.
