NEW JERSEY – Authorities arrested a Paterson, New Jersey man on charges of giving a 13-year-old girl alcoholic beverages and marijuana while in their care, then inappropriately touching her, the Passaic County prosecutor said, Camelia Valdes.
Joseph Montgomery, 33, was arrested on February 17 and received two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree, one for aggravated illicit sexual contact in the third degree and one for illicit sexual contact in the fourth degree.
According to the prosecution report, on January 2, 2021, the Wayne Police responded to a call in which they accused the caregiver of a minor of inappropriately touching her inside a residence in this city. Authorities were able to question several witnesses, including the victim, who said the defendant allegedly touched her after giving her marijuana and alcoholic beverages when he was taking care of her on New Year’s Eve and the early hours of January 1.
The defendant could face a sentence of up to 10 years on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child alone.
Montgomery’s detention hearing will be on February 23, 2021.
