From Montauban to Grenoble, then in the opposite direction. Arrived at the FCG in the offseason 2018, the one who had seen the Isère club climb to the Top 14, Taleta “Leka” Tupuola (31 years old) will return to Tarn-et-Garonne.
The New Zealand center, at the end of its contract next June, has signed up for US Montalbanaise next season. It is the Montalbanese club which formalized it this Monday on social networks.
In three seasons in Grenoble, Tupuola has played 54 matches so far (17 in Top 14, three in European Challenge and 34 in Pro D2). Able to cover the posts of center or winger, he lived two rather neutral first seasons (2018-2019 and 2019-2020), alternating the scoresheets as a substitute and as a holder.
His third season in Grenoble, the best
But this season, he had taken a step forward, especially in recent weeks, by stringing together convincing performances at the position of first center, to the point of earning his stripes of holder and pushing back the competition from Alaska Taufa, the taulier to the position of No. 12.
He was a major player in the successful start of 2021 for the Rouge et Bleu, who have won six of their first seven matches.
With sixteen games played in Pro D2 (one try and one assist), he is the second player most used by the staff of Isère in 2020-2021.
In 2021-2022, Tupuola will therefore return to the Sapiac basin and USM, a club for which he played 116 matches from 2013 to 2018, contributing to the club’s accession to Pro D2 and then to its progression in the second professional division ( semi-final in 2018).
