The Council of Europe condemned the execution of an American woman and reminded the United States of their status

Holtgen also recalled that the United States has observer status in the Council of Europe.

On January 12, a woman was reportedly executed in the United States for the first time in 68 years. Lisa Montgomery was injected by lethal injection after a federal court rejected her death sentence appeal.
