Island – das Outdoor-Eldorado
The Land of Fire and Ice is the Mecca of every outdoor lover and perfect for hikes where you can experience volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers and geysers up close. An exciting tour suitable for beginners can be found in the east of the island: to the Hengifoss waterfall. About 30 kilometers from Egilsstadir above Lagarfljot is a car park from where you start the 2.5 kilometer tour. A staircase leads to a gravel path from which you can see the Litlanesfoss waterfall. A little later you stand in front of the impressive and fourth largest waterfall in Iceland, the Hengifoss. We also recommend a volcano hike in the Thorsmörk Valley, which is surrounded by the three glaciers Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Tindfjallajökull, and a tour along the approximately 14-kilometer-long cliffs of Látrabjarg in the Icelandic Westfjords. In the summer you can see puffins and other seabirds.
