WM 2026
The final of the WM 2022 – so it’s high time to mentally prepare for the next World Cup. Die WM 2026 will be held in three countries: in Canada, the USA and Mexico. The 80 games with 48 teams will then take place in 16 stadiums. However, the division between the three countries does not seem entirely fair to some.
While eleven stadiums are used in the USA, there are only three in Mexico and in You have even just two. In the USA there is an existing infrastructure of stadiums that are mainly used by the National Football League for the unofficial national sport of American football. In Canada, ice hockey is by far the most popular sport, but most ice hockey arenas are difficult to convert into soccer fields.
However, the fact that only three stadiums are used in Mexico compared to 11 in the US makes little sense to many football fans, as Mexico is far more football-loving than its northern neighbors. However, only three cities in Mexico had applied. The soccer World Cup has already taken place twice in Mexico: in 1970 and 16 years later, in 1986. However, the tournaments at that time were much smaller, in 1970 only 14 teams competed against each other, in 1986 there were 24.
The USA also hosted a men’s soccer World Cup in 1994. Back then, 24 teams competed against each other. 48 nations will take part in the 2026 World Cup – more than ever before.
