Ophelia Nichols says police are investigating strong leads into her son’s death
Ophelia Nichols returned to TikTok on Monday to update followers on her son’s case. According to the beloved TikTok star, police think they know who is responsible for her son’s death. She told her followers that police believe multiple people were involved in the shooting.
Nichols said police told her her son’s death may have been the result of a robbery or a drug deal gone awry. According to Nichols, police told her that Lee may have been selling marijuana to someone he knew when he was shot. She did not mention how this lead came about.
According to NBC 15, a Prichard police spokesman said cameras captured the incident at the gas station on June 24. The spokesman said they believe Lee went to the Saint Stephens Road petrol station to sell marijuana. When the meeting went bad, they believe he drove across the street to escape his attackers. While Alabama legalized medical marijuana in 2021, there are only 15 conditions that qualify for a medical marijuana license. Recreational marijuana remains illegal in the state.
In a pinned comment to her video, Nichols said she had “bad feelings” about the area where the incident happened. Prichard, Alabama has a higher than average violent crime rate. The gun violence that took Lee’s life wasn’t the only shooting in the town of just 21,000 people over the weekend. According to WSFA 12, a gunman opened fire on a Popeye’s passage just 48 hours after Lee’s death. The incident happened on the same street where Lee died. The shots sent two people who worked at the fast-food restaurant to the hospital.
