Today’s Top News in Miami, Florida and the US – NBC 7 Miami (51)

Today is Tuesday June 28 and these are the main news of the day:

1.- A shooting involved a police officer in southwest Miami-Dade. An undercover agent tried to stop two men who were driving a gray Dodge Charger, allegedly involved in the commission of various crimes. In the flight, they tried to run over the agent and he fired at the vehicle. The suspects are at large.

2.- At FIU there was Protests for and against the Supreme Court ruling which eliminated the constitutional right to abortion. The court’s ruling gives the decision-making power to the states. In the Florida, the new law that restricts abortion should take effect this Friday, but it is already facing a challenge of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

3.- Pharmacy chain CVS announced that it is limiting the number of contraceptives known as “morning after pills” that it sells on its website, to ensure equitable access and an adequate supply in stores. Over the weekend, CVS Health began limiting so-called “Plan B” purchases to three per order.

4.- Cuba confirmed the shipwreck of a boat with 15 migrants on board in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque province. The authorities reported that they found a man with burns and dehydration, who said that the raft had left Jibacoa. Five other castaways were rescued, but nine people are missing.

5.- Miami-Dade County will offer free vaccines against COVID-19 to children up to five years old until Wednesday.
