Tom Hanks reluctantly revealed how he altered his appearance for a key role in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.
The film, which will be directed by Baz Luhrmann, who previously directed the 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby, has already assembled an impressive cast. Austin Butler will play Elvis Presley, while Olivia DeJonge, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Luke Bracey, Dacre Montgomery and Yola will appear as important characters in the singer’s life.
Hanks plays one of the most important characters, Colonel Tom Parker, the man who discovered Elvis in 1955 and who eventually became his sole manager. The partnership was beneficial, as it helped lead to the singer’s tremendous success, although Parker’s tenure was not without controversy. Hanks appears to have already stepped into the role of the biopic, which is expected to be released in late 2021, he posted.
The reveal took place during an interview on The Graham Norton Show. Hanks said he was in Australia to shoot the next Elvis biopic. And then the famous actor offered to show how he changed his appearance to better suit the role of Elvis manager. With considerable reluctance, Hanks takes off his hat to reveal his new haircut. But only for a moment.
While the new look, reminiscent of JK Simmons in his Spider-Man: Far From Home cameo, may need some tweaking, it’s not the only tweak Hanks will have to make to play Parker.
Hanks explained why he doesn’t favor evil roles. Parker could challenge that preference, as he is a remarkably complicated figure.
Yet it would hardly be acceptable for a biopic to miss certain uncomfortable truths.
Regardless of the approach used for the Elvis biopic, Hanks is sure to deliver a memorable performance.
