US Steel maximizes its superiority in iron ore
US Steel, a major US blast furnace company, announced on the 28th its iron source strategy, such as taking advantage of its own low-cost iron ore. An investment of $ 150 million (¥ 20.4 billion) to produce pellets for direct reduced iron (DRI) directly at the iron ore base in Minnesota will begin this fall. Production for DRI will start while continuing production of pellets for blast furnace. As the capacity of the electric furnace expands, the strength of iron ore will be utilized in the electric furnace. The two blast furnaces of the Granito City Steel Works will be transferred to the raw material processing company Suncork Energy, and the competitiveness will be strengthened through measures against iron sources such as receiving 2 million tons of granular pig iron.
