Heavyweight Alexander Usik spoke about his plans for the near future.
The Ukrainian is still waiting for a decision on the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, and he wants to hold his next fight in Ukraine.
“We are working to hold a professional fight in Ukraine, preferably at the Olympic NSC. I remember when I boxed in Kiev, in Lvov, what a “fire” was in these halls, how people came and supported. Naturally, I want to give the same thing to people again, and in return receive support and love. We are working in this direction, “Usik said.
“Next fight? Now we are still waiting for the WBO decision, whether Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have agreed. I am on the first line of the rating. It seems to me that you can negotiate with Joe Joyce and box, but I can lose my position to go against Anthony. Naturally, I would like to fight with Joshua for the regular WBO title, and not for the interim title, as we are offered. “
“We were put in the first place in the rating, which means we want to justly get this opportunity. They want to use us a little bit. If they don’t give us this, then I just want to box off and please my fans, and it is desirable to hold this fight in Ukraine ”.
In February, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) appointed Usyk to fight Joe Joyce for the interim world title. Since then, the boxing teams have not yet agreed on the details of the fight.
Usyk did not enter the ring after defeating Derek Chisora in October last year.
