Victories in Deventer for marathon skaters Harink and Kiel

10:49 PM: Jordy Harink (Royal A-ware) and Esther Kiel (BDM/BTZ) have won the seventh round of the Marathon Cup in Deventer. In anticipation of a possible first marathon on natural ice, Harink defeated Sjoerd den Hertog, who took over the lead in the standings from Harm Visser. Daan Gelling finished third.

Kiel kept Roza Blokker and Laura van Ramshorst behind in the women’s race. Maaike Verweij, sixth in Deventer, kept the lead in the standings.

Van Alphen winner cyclo-cross in Essen

3.25 pm: Aniek van Alphen has triumphed again a week after her surprising win in the Boom Superprestigecross. The 23-year-old Hapertse, who plays for team 777, won the fourth Exact Cross of the season in Essen, Belgium.

Van Alphen was supreme in the border town under Roosendaal. Halfway through, the Brabant woman took off alone. Going into the last lap, she already had a lead of 45 seconds on a group of riders, of whom the Belgian Alicia Franck finished second with some distance on the others. The Dutch Yara Kastelijn won the sprint for third place.

Sunday is the World Cup cross in Dublin, a reason for toppers such as Fem van Empel and Puck Pieterse to miss the race in Essen.

Most of the top players were also missing among the men. The Belgian Wout van Aert and the British world champion Tom Pidcock chose Dublin. Mathieu van der Poel is on a training camp, while the Belgians Laurens Sweeck, Eli Iserbyt and Michael Vanthourenhout also skipped Essen. It offered the young Belgian Gerben Kuypers the opportunity to distinguish himself. Behind him, his compatriot Jens Adams finished second.

Golf star Weber retains view of playing card US tour

12.31 pm: Golf star Dewi Weber is well on her way to retaining her playing card on the US women’s tour LPGA, the highest pro level. The 26-year-old born Groningen is in the final qualifying tournament in Dothan (Alabama) in joint 21st place after six of the eight rounds to be played. A starting ticket for 2023 is ready for the top 45.

Weber played at the LPGA for the first time this year, but she did not finish high enough in the year ranking to immediately extend her playing card. She played about twenty tournaments with a tie for sixth place in July in the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational as a best result.

In Dothan, Weber is 13 strokes under par after six rounds over 18 holes. The German Isi Gabsa leads with -23. The tournament ends on Sunday.
