Iran Denies Control Over Resistance Groups: Collaboration with Egypt Key to Regional Stability
In an interview on Egypt’s Alghad TV, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed concerns about Iran’s influence in the region, categorically stating that Resistance groups operate independently and are not under Iranian command.
The interview, which aired on Friday following recent visits by the Iranian President and Foreign Minister to Cairo, occurred during the Developing Eight (D-8) summit. Araghchi aimed to dispel the misconception that Resistance groups adhere to Iranian directives.
“The notion that Resistance groups follow Iranian directives is incorrect,” Araghchi asserted. “While these groups share common goals with Iran, they are not controlled by it.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister also highlighted the long-term American-Israeli strategies designed to destabilize the region, emphasizing the devastating consequences of these plans. He pointed to the “aggressive warfare” resulting in the deaths of over sixty thousand women, children, and civilians in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria as stark evidence of the threat Israel poses to regional stability.
Iran’s Role in Syria: Combating Terrorism
Regarding Iran’s involvement in Syria, Araghchi clarified their role has been purely advisory, focusing on combating terrorist groups like ISIS. He paid tribute to the late General Qassem Soleimani, recognizing his sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
“Our support is for the Syrian people and their sovereignty, not for any individual,” Araghchi stressed.
Araghchi warned of the potential resurgence of terrorism in Syria, labeling it a threat to all regional nations.
The Axis of Resistance and Palestinian Rights
He elaborated on the concept of the Axis of Resistance, emphasizing its role in restoring justice in Palestine. “This is not just about fighting; it’s about securing Palestinian rights and combating occupation by the Zionist regime,” he stated.
Despite significant losses, including the martyrdom of leaders, Araghchi noted that the Resistance has inflicted substantial blows on the occupiers, forcing the Israeli regime to negotiate ceasefires in Lebanon.
Strengthening Ties with Egypt: A Path to Stability
Araghchi emphasized the historical and cultural bonds between Iran and Egypt, advocating for stronger cooperation. “Our collaboration can lead to stability and prosperity,” he remarked, applauding Egypt’s peace initiatives in Palestine. He added, “Iran stands with Egypt in these humanitarian efforts.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister’s interview underscores the importance of clear communication and understanding in a complex region.
