Scarlett Johansson “Blacks Out” During Husband Colin Jost’s R-Rated Joke Swap Segment on SNL
Scarlett Johansson revealed her absolute dread of her husband Colin Jost’s popular “Joke Swap” segment on *Saturday Night Live* – and this time, she had a front-row seat to the humiliation. During the latest episode hosted by Martin Short, Johansson joined other Five-Timers club members in the Cold Open.
The “Joke Swap” segment traditionally sees Jost and Michael Che mercilessly roasting each other. However, this time, the jokes took a particularly inappropriate turn with Jost forced to read jokes of *his* wife in a “Black voice,” including an offensive line about slavery reparations
The audience (especially Jost!) erupted with groans and gasps when Johansson’s photo appeared. Jost chuckled nervously, dedicating the first joke to his “boo” Scarlett Johansson, referencing her recent 40th birthday and darkly suggesting, “which means I’m about to get up outta there!”
But the cringe-worthy jokes didn’t stop there. Jost continued the barrage, quipping about their new baby being “Black as hell” and making a shockingly crude joke about Costco’s discontinued roast beef sandwich. This third joke prompted Johansson to shake her head in disbelief backstage.
Che wasn’t spared from the backlash either. His jokes targeting celebrities like Jay-Z and Diddy drew even more criticism for their insensitive nature and made light of serious allegations.
Johansson previously spoke about the “Joke Swap” segment in a July interview, jokingly saying, “We need to go into like, witness protection after that night… I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be like, targeted.”
Johansson spoke about the Joke Swap, which Jost and Che typically do in the Christmas and season finale episodes of SNL, in a July interview.
“We need to go into like, witness protection after that night,” she joked. “Like, I am absolutely terrified we’re gonna be like, targeted. It’s so bad. I black out for that period of the night. I don’t — I actually don’t remember it.”
