Field Office 1: Food Packs Distribution for IPs

Davao City’s commitment to supporting Indigenous Peoples (IPs) communities shines brightly through its recent initiative to provide food packs and capability-building activities. Acting CSWDO Administrative Officer Marie Botona shared details about this impactful program on Madayaw Dabaw Live Program on December 23, 2024.

Botona revealed that the distribution of food packs, intended to compensate IPs for their participation in capability-building workshops, concluded successfully on December 14, 2024. The initiative, which commenced on December 1, 2024, aimed to empower IPs by equipping them with knowledge about the latest programs, services, and laws offered by the CSWDO.

“Mao ni siya nga food packs are given after the conduct of capability buildings nga gihatag nato sa ilaha para ma-compensate ang adlaw nga wala sila katrabaho, at the same time sa pamasahe sila (These food packs are given to compensate them for the days that they did not work and also for their fare during the conduct of the capability building),” Botona explained.

The CSWDO’s dedication to IP welfare extends beyond these workshops. The department actively monitors streets to ensure the safety and well-being of IPs, facilitating their return to their communities if they are found roaming. Furthermore, the city government collaborates with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to assist IPs from outside Davao City who are encountered seeking alms.

Recognizing the vulnerability of IPs, particularly during holidays, the CSWDO strongly advocates for the anti-mendicancy campaign, aiming to protect both IPs and other individuals who rely on alms.

Through these comprehensive efforts, Davao City demonstrates its unwavering commitment to supporting and empowering its Indigenous Peoples communities.
