Russian President Ukraine War and More – The New …”>Putin Hosts Slovak Prime Minister Fico in Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to the Kremlin on Tuesday for a working visit, as reported by TASS. The talks were held in a "four-eyes" format, confirmed Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as cited by BTA.

Earlier, Serbian President Alexander Vucic stated that Prime Minister Fico intended to discuss with Putin the refusal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to extend the transit of gas through Ukraine.

Fico had previously noted that Zelensky’s decision to halt gas transits via Ukraine would lead to a crisis in Slovakia. The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is expected to cease on January 1, 2025, following the expiration of a five-year deal, according to TASS.

Notably, Fico is one of the few European leaders who has maintained close ties with the Russian president, according to agencies.
