Meath woman spent five-and-a-half weeks on life support after being hit by car

Aisling  Morris had just stepped off her bus home from college on a dark and rainy October night when she was hit by a car.

She was 18, a talented art student, who loved photography and music and festivals. She had a boyfriend, was in a band, and her future looked full of promise. But in an instant, all that changed. The driver said they didn’t see her until she was on the windscreen of their car.

Aisling, from Co. Meath, spent five and a half weeks on life support, and she and her family spent Christmas 2005 in Beaumont Hospital.

When she came around, she could not move or speak, and could only recognise her mother, Doreen. Her cognitive abilities were like those of a nine-month-old baby.
