headline More Train Services Between Narvik and Kiruna Cancelled due to Adverse Weather **
Numerous train journeys between Narvik and Kiruna, located in northern Sweden, have been cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions, leaving many passengers stranded. Swedish national public service broadcaster SVT News reports that several tourists are facing difficulties as a result of these cancellations.
Malin Eneslätt and Anders Finnberg, a couple from Luleå, Sweden, are among those affected by the disruptions. "There are tourists everywhere waiting for buses that never arrive," Eneslätt reported to SVT. "We’ve tried to help some, but it’s challenging to assist everyone."
According to SJ’s official website, the adverse weather has led to the suspension of train services until Monday, and no substitute bus services have been arranged for the route.
Eneslätt and Finnberg managed to organise alternative transport to Kiruna via social media, but other travellers may remain stranded in Narvik until train services resume. They attempted to assist some Indian tourists by arranging taxis, with SJ covering up to 2,000 Swedish Krona (approximately 2060 NOK) per taxi.
"There are hundreds of tourists, and they’re having a really hard time," Eneslätt told SVT. "None of us know anything more than that the trains are cancelled, there are no substitute services, and we have to sort it out ourselves."
Line Edström, press contact for SJ, acknowledged that it might be challenging for international tourists to access relevant information. She confirmed that SJ has been providing detailed updates in both Swedish and English.
"We understand that this situation is far from ideal," Edström told SVT. "But we refuse to take any risks, and our trains will resume as soon as we receive the green light from Trafikverket."
