The Edmonton Oilers weren’t happy with how Saturday’s 4-3 OT loss to the LA Kings ended, but not for the reason you may expect.
While a team is never happy to lose a game, the Oilers had some complaints about how the referees handled an incident right before Quinton Byfield’s eventual winner. Apparently, Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner had been yelling at one of the officials about his mask, which had a loose strap on it. Usually, the play would be blown down to ensure Skinner could repair his mask.
Yet, that wasn’t the case, and the play resumed and eventually ended with the Kings getting the win. Skinner was animated after the goal as he demanded a reason from the officials, but that was to no avail.
