On New Year’s Day, a police compound in Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur, came under attack when two grenades were hurled into the premises around 6 pm. One grenade detonated, causing damage to a vehicle, while the other failed to explode, preventing further casualties.

Brigadier General Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of Police-BARMM, stated that the motive behind the attack is likely linked to retaliation from a drug syndicate following the recent arrest of a high-profile individual involved in illegal drug activities. Macapaz identified the group responsible and warned about the consequences of any further harassment against security forces.
