Nagpur children’s HMPV samples sent to NIV Pune for genome sequencing

Nagpur: The samples of two city kids are now being sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune for whole genome sequencing, the results of which are likely to take a longer period.
The two kids had tested positive for the human metapneumonia virus (HMPV) at a private hospital lab, but the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) refused to accept the report. The civic body collected the samples for a confirmatory RT-PCR test from AIIMS-Nagpur’s Viral Research Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL).
AIIMS officials were tight-lipped about the results of the RT-PCR test conducted on the two samples on Thursday after procuring singleplex kits from NIV Pune. NMC officials also kept mum about the result.
