Andersen Consulting is Back: Resurrected by Former CEO
After a 20-year hiatus, the iconic professional services brand Andersen Consulting is making a comeback, with the help of its former leader, George Shaheen.
Shaheen, who headed Andersen Consulting from 1989 to 1999, will be instrumental in this revival, guiding the firm’s relaunch next month.
The Spark Behind the Revival
This ambitious project is led by Andersen Global, a tax and legal firm founded by former Arthur Andersen alumni in 2000. Building on its parent company’s heritage, Andersen Global has been strategically expanding its consulting arm. After acquiring the rights to the Andersen brand in 2014, the firm has now set its sights on reintroducing the revered name back to the professional services landscape.
Andersen Consulting 2.0: Expanding Beyond Tax and Legal
Originally focused on tax and legal services, Andersen Global has recognized the lucrative opportunities in the broader consulting market. Over the past six months, it has strategically recruited 20 new member firms across the globe, specializing in diverse areas such as IT solutions, strategy consulting, cybersecurity, and sustainability.
Breaking Free from the Legacy: Advantages of Independence
Shaheen emphasized the unique advantages of this new Andersen Consulting compared to its predecessor. The consulting arm’s independence from a formal audit business allows them to pursue a broader range of services without the constraints of auditor-client conflict-of-interest regulations. This potential for greater flexibility and assertiveness positions them for a competitive edge in the market.
A Play for the Future: IPO on the Horizon
Andersen Global is also exploring a potential initial public offering (IPO) for its US business, aiming to raise capital for further acquisitions and strategic integration of the consulting arm. This initiative underscores the company’s ambition to establish itself as a major player in the global professional services sector once again.
Looking Back to Move Forward
Mark Vorsatz, founder of Andersen Global, believes the Andersen brand still resonates powerfully: “Andersen Consulting was the Coca-Cola of professional services. If you are over 40 in business, you know Andersen Consulting.”
The relaunched Andersen Consulting aims to tap into this nostalgic recognition while offering a modern, agile, and independent consulting experience. Will this nostalgic brand revival recapture the magic of its past? Only time will tell.
Stay tuned for updates on Andersen Consulting’s journey as it sets out to conquer the competitive professional services landscape.
