The former Dublin hurler and selector Mick Kennedy, a member of the 1961 All-Ireland final panel, has died at the age of 89. A native of Tipperary, he was the first man to score in a live televised GAA match, when he landed the opening point in the 1962 Railway Cup final, playing for Leinster in their win over Munster.
The 1961 team was the last Dublin side to reach an All Ireland senior hurling final, losing to Tipperary by a point.
Kennedy was born in Clonmel and played both codes for Tipperary, winning an All-Ireland minor hurling medal in 1953 when his midfield partner was the team captain Billy Quinn, father of former soccer star Niall. Kennedy and Quinn later hurled together for Faughs after they…
